Ayatollah Khamenei : Counsel for the Non-Aligned Movement Nations and the Wayward West
A compelling speech and sound advice for the Non-Aligned Movement Nations and the Wayward West from the Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei
Addressing the opening ceremony of the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran on Thursday, Iran’s Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said the world is in transition to a new international order.
“In the recent past, we have been witness to the failure of the policies of the Cold War era and the unilateralism that followed it. Having learnt lessons from this historical experience, the world is in transition towards a new international order and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) can and should play a new role.”
NAM Summit convenes in Tehran
Khamenei stated that the main NAM values such as anti-colonialism, political, economic and cultural independence, non-alignment with any power blocs, and improving solidarity and cooperation among the member states remain “alive and steady” after the passage of more than five decades.
Khamenei said that as the members of the movement, we can create a new historic and lasting role towards rescuing the world from insecurity, war and hegemony by pooling our great resources and capacities. He expressed confidence that the establishment of an active and motivated secretariat for effective economic cooperation and cultural ties would be a great and significant help in achieving these goals.

The NAM nations wish to chart their own course, do things their own way and most certainly do not wish to be subject to US foreign policy which is controlled by, and serves, a corrupt, vicious Zionism.
Khamenei reiterates: Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that Iran has never sought nuclear weapons, stressing that the country will never give up the Iranian nation’s right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
Khamenei described the use of nuclear, chemical and similar weapons as a “great and unforgivable sin” and emphasized that Iran adheres to its proposed idea of a “Middle East free of nuclear weapons.”
This does not mean forgoing our right to the peaceful use of nuclear power and the production of nuclear fuel, Khamenei pointed out.
Khamenei added that the elimination of the catastrophic weapons of mass destruction is an “urgent necessity and a universal demand.”
UN Security Council’s ‘flagrant dictatorship’
Khamenei stated that the US and its allies abuse the “illogical, unjust and completely undemocratic” structure of the UN Security Council to impose their bullying on the world.
“This is a flagrant form of dictatorship, which is antiquated and obsolete and whose expiry date has passed.”
Khamenei added that the US and its accomplices protect the interests of the West in the name of “human rights”, interfere militarily in other countries in the name of “democracy” and target defenseless people in villages and cities with their bombs and weapons in the name of “combating terrorism”.
“Using their exclusive and organized media network, they (the West) disguise their lies as the truth, their falsehood as true, and their oppression as efforts to promote justice. In contrast, they brand as lies every true statement that exposes their deceit and label every legitimate demand as roguish,” Ayatollah Khamenei pointed out.
Khamenei stressed the importance of firm, logical and comprehensive bonds between the NAM member states to find a remedy to the ongoing flawed and harmful situation.
A just, democratic solution for Palestine
Khamenei said Iran has provided an entirely democratic solution to the “very important issue of Palestine,” advising the US to rescue itself from the current impossible situation.
“We have put forth a just and entirely democratic solution. All the Palestinians — both its current citizens and those who have been forced to leave for other countries and have maintained their Palestinian identity, including Muslims, Christians and Jews, should take part in a public, carefully supervised and confidence-building referendum and choose the structure of the political system of this country.”
Pointing to myriad problems which have afflicted the US as a result of supporting the Zionist regime, including Washington’s notoriety among the regional nations as well as the enormous material and spiritual costs incurred by the American nation and government over many years, the Khamenei stated that if Washington’s support for Israel continues, the costs will become even heavier.
Khamenei noted that on the basis of “a horrible Western plot and under the direction of the United Kingdom in the 1940s,” an independent country with a clear historical identity called “Palestine” has been usurped from its people through the use of weapons, massacre and deception to be given to a group of people the majority of them were immigrants from European countries.
“This massive usurpation which started with the mass killing of defenseless people in cities and villages and driving people out of their homes to neighboring countries, has continued with the similar crimes over more than six decades and is still going on today. This is one of the most important issues facing the human society.”
Ayatollah Khamenei argued that over decades, Israel has been labeling the Palestinian nation which has been struggling to restore its rights, as terrorists and “the media network belonging to Zionism as well as many Western and mercenary media have ignored their ethical and media commitment by repeating this big lie.”
Khamenei also slammed the international human rights bodies for turning a blind eye to Israel’s atrocities and even lending support to the criminal regime of Tel Aviv.
Khamenei urges UN to help create nuclear-free Middle East
During a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and his accompanying delegation in Tehran on Wednesday, Khamenei pointed to nuclear disarmament as the common concern for all humanity.
He added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran reiterates its stance on a Middle East free of nuclear weapons, and the UN should make serious efforts to allay the concerns with regard to nuclear arms.”
He called on the United Nations to assume a more decisive role in creating a nuclear-free Middle East. Khamenei referred to the US-engineered allegations against Iran’s nuclear energy program and stated, “The Americans are fully aware that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons and [they are] merely looking for a pretext.”
Ayatollah Khamenei also censured United Nations for its inaction toward the US military threats against Iran, reminding that the world body “was expected to promptly counter the threat.”

Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich : ‘NAM Summit a Direct Challenge to US Hegemony in Region’
Writer Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich thinks Tehran is being courteous in extending the UN Sec.Gen. Ban Ki-moon an invitation to tour its nuclear facilities… because the IAEA has a 24 hour round the clock monitoring system of the facilities, Ban Ki-moon can watch it from his office at the UN, she said.
The UN chief Ban Ki-moon, who’s at the meeting despite U.S. objections, says Iran can play a role in halting the war in Syria…
Soraya thinks Iran is the only country that can help and she hopes NAM members will join Iran in successfully resolving the crisis in Syria that is spilling over to neighboring countries.
She says “America is undermining the sovereignty of every country and this is the path it expects all countries to pursue…”
She adds “NAM is coming together to resist this kind of aggression, to resist this kind of double standards and hypocrisy…”

Is the NAM an indication of a rebellion against the big bully? A Non-Aligned movement making decisions without the benefit of counsel from the USA, the ‘home of the brave’, the ‘bastion of democracy’, jargons that just don’t mean a damn any more.
In Tehran we have countries openly stating by their presence that they are their own masters. If the US had its way it would probably institute inhumane sanctions against the whole lot of them. After all, it worked in Iraq. 1.5 million men, women and children died. And that was before the totally unnecessary war.
But that’s democracy, US-style. Impressive, isn’t it.
Now that’s real success by any measure How dare these countries meet ….and in Tehran as well, the butt of all the Israeli hate campaigns, which means that it also mandatory to be hated by the US as well. Two peas in a hateful pod.
It is quite evident that the speech by Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei at the NAM, clearly showed that he knows what he is talking about. Galling as it must be for the US that so many countries now see them for what they are, all occurring at the time of the GOP circus in Florida where they have committed to doing Israel’s bidding, once again, still, as expected, par for the course and putting Iran and all its people under the threat of war. No capitulation from this country, however. It has nothing to be ashamed of….no nuclear weapons (Israel has 300), no ambitions to own the middle east (Israel’s grand plan, ‘Eretz Israel’) many supportive friends (Israel has none other than the compliant US) and far more democracy than Israel, an undisputed fact. But don’t expect to see any of these fact s in the mainstream (Jewish-controlled ) press.
A previous imperial power, England, also received a taste of the independence of the South American countries over the Julian Assange / Ecuador Embassy affair, countries that are tired of being seen as colonies, once of the UK and now under the bullying influence of the US.
Few things change. We have gone from one arrogant empire to another and no one has learnt a thing.
More strength to you all at NAM, Gird your loins for China empire. It’s on its way. As we noted by the attendance of the feckless Israel fellow traveler and Secretary of State Clinton, in the Pacific this week, they see that China must be controlled (it is the American way) and should really be in awe of Clinton’s magnificent country. It is called American exceptional-ism. But China forgot to read the script. It isn’t in awe of the US. Few countries are these days. The fact that she is tramping around the Pacific would not be of any joy to anyone here, be assured of that.
Oh, what wouldn’t one give for a Non-Aligned Australia.
